Caleb online preview

Caleb was an unusual assortment of talents and character wealth painstakingly molded
and shaped by many years of refining trials and enough heart experiences to last more
than one lifetime. His wife, Joanna had often chastened him for his artist's creative
restlessness; yet, he knew that she was completely at peace, except for the quiet suffering
a childless womanhood had produced. In spite of this, Caleb and his love had through the
years nurtured and cared for at least a score of foster children raising a handful
themselves. It seemed that in those days of confusion following the war that the streets
were full of children hurting for the love and hand of someone who cared. More than one
orphanage bore the mark in one way or another of this precious couple who had not only
committed their money, but their lives to this sort of caring.

So it was fitting that Caleb in his final days, lonely without his Joanna and patiently
enduring this sorrow, would undertake a very timely commission or project. Sculpting
had never been his best expression, but it had proved to be the most successful with
numerous works of his gracing public buildings. A choice few had even found their way
into foreign museums which truly surprised him. No, sculpting had not been his favorite
partly because it was the most difficult. His heart took the greatest pleasure in revealing
the beauty of simplicity in the infinite and splendid order of the universe. As God's hand
moved upon the waters, so he desired to use a combination of water color techniques to
touch upon the depths of the greatest work of art- creation itself, but most of this desire
remained within him.
