RICH LOAF

Oil in the kitchen jar nearly gone
Flour as well
New grain harvest far off;
Bank accounts withering away
Credit card limits at hand,
Anxiety grips with cruelty
The stresses of modem finances
In an awful money world
Where dead idols somehow reach into men's hearts.
Greed among women a virtue in the U.S.A.
Pressures and fears of not enough
Drain nearly every ounce of life away
Jobs are thin and few
Paychecks wilt in the summer heat
From month to month
From week to week, day to day
There never seems to be enough.
Doubts rise up
Hearts cry out-
Lord God of heaven, provider of all
Remember us in your kingdom;
Remember me in your awesome plan
Keep trust alive
And my footsteps with integrity
All honor in the small portions
As well as in the abundance.
Lord of the Harvest, provider for my body, soul and spirit
Keep my eye single
My trust at rest in your hands,
Whether dry crust or rich, dark, whole grain loaf.

MYSTERY AND PARABLE

Wickedness stalks our land
Followed hand in hand with treachery
Predators multiply like flies
The nations turned into refuse
Common humanity considered a low form
Cast in piles as feces.
Those who rule as nobility
As self- appointed royalty
Bask in their wealth and power
Proud of the visions given
Rightful authority to shape and mold
Control gained at the dark altar of worship.
The lowly, the humble and meek
Remnant of delight chosen
Ones more powerful, wiser,
Sit in peace near heaven's throne;
They watch the ways of the present earth
With sadness and quieted disgust.
What should be so beautiful
The common needs, the common good
Shared wealth and joy
Now nearly spoiled and ruined.
Patience covers the land
A tolerance, an endurance joined with trust
Confidence in a greater power, greater authority
Absolute trust in what is unseen,
Enlightened hope indwells
Carries over and through, rises above.
Mystery to the world,
Parables to those who belong to it.
